9. Casa de Sela and Jardín de Indianos

Casa de Sela is one of the oldest Indiano constructions in Ribadeo, dating back to 1869. Its remarkable size, the stark decoration, and the use of granite stonework harken back to traditional Galician architecture (both institutional and private) from the 18th and 19th centuries. Their builders did not stray far from the classical trends of the local architecture, an example of which are the urban pazos constructed during said centuries.

There is evidence that this mansion is a replica of the one the commissioner owned in Mexico, which could be the reason why it boasts such fancy arcades and a round mirador on the top floor. The estate is surrounded by a garden planted with Indiano favourites such as the palm tree.

The so-called Parque de Indianos included in the tour was conceived as an homage to Ribadeo's immigrants, regardless of their success or whether they returned or not. The park contains both Galician and American flora, such as monkey-puzzle trees, magnolia trees, and various species of flowering plants, apart from the banana plants that were already on the state before it was remodeled.
