Cuartel Viejo

This tower-house is an example of the excess in which some Indianos indulged in their pursuit of displaying their wealth through their houses. The sheer size of the estate (over 1,000 square metres) became too much to handle for the owners.

It's no wonder that the estate was later used as a military facility, giving rise to its current name.

The tower-house is better known for its size than for its architectural features, which are nonetheless remarkable for one reason: the functionality of the buildings main body, a three-storie octahedron of rationalist conception.

The only appealing features of the exterior are the balustrade atop the main façade and the abundant relief carvings on the right side of the building.
